Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
Perched strategically on a ridge at the confluence of Punatsangchhu and Dangchhu rivers, the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong represents classic Bhutanese fortress architecture. Originally constructed in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, this historically significant dzong served as an important administrative and religious center. Though affected by a 2012 fire, ongoing restoration preserves its spiritual legacy while reconstruction showcases traditional Bhutanese craftsmanship. The dzong's hilltop location offers panoramic valley views and insight into Bhutan's architectural heritage and Buddhist traditions.
